The Highland Course At Primland Resort opened for play in 2006. The course was designed by Scottish golf course architect Donald Steel.
Primland Resort is a pristine Blue Ridge Mountain resort offers 12,000 acres of space, sky and shifting moods. The Highland Course at Primland is an upscale, mountain links style golf course. At 7,034 yards of golf from the longest tees it's a 147 slope, and plays every bit of it. The course plays across ridgetops and over valleys, with fantastic views. Tree lined and fairways carved into the ridges are not forgiving, and you can find yourself in some unrecoverable lies. The greens are average sized, with good roll and undulation.
The Highland Course At Primland Resort was ranked #13 nationally and #1 in Virginia, in Golf Digests's May 2011 listing of America;s 100 greatest public golf courses.

One of the most beautiful golf courses you will ever play. I couldn't wait to get to the next hole to see what kind of view would be revealed. Unlike most mountain golf courses, this one is on top of the mountain. The bent greens are smooth and fast. The fairways (bent also) were wet when we played due to all the rain we had this summer but they drain well and we were allowed to drive on them. Make sure you play the right tees for your level of play. You do not want to miss the fairways.

We visited on a package staying at the Inn, which adds to the overall outstanding experience. I am 80 with a 11+ index so played the 6000 yd tees. Accuracy counts. I shot in mid-80s with minimal lost balls. The bent fairways are bordered by 2 ft high fescue. The greens are in super shape, also bent, but are typical mountain greens. What looks like it is breaking left goes right, etc. Playing it 3 times improved the putting greatly by the last day. Driving range, staff, golf shop, all facilities are truly 5 star. Should be on every true golfer's bucket list.
